Important Notice: Preparing for Canada Post Disruption

20 May 2025

The Canada Post strike is scheduled to occur as early as Friday, May 23.  As a result, any cheques issued for staff and students will be held and those impacted will be emailed instructions on how to pick them up.  It is advised that the faculty/unit hold onto their mail or arrange a courier for more urgent items. Review important tips below:

Pay & Benefits

Ensure you’re signed up for payroll direct deposit to avoid delays and ensure uninterrupted access to your pay and benefits reimbursements

Remind your new hires to set up their direct deposit on their first day as per the instructions above.

Mail & Deliveries

For urgent outbound items, consider using a courier service with a physical street address. For non-urgent items, consider holding items until the Canada Post dispute is resolved.

Vendors

Existing vendors set up for cheque payments will be contacted and encouraged to switch to Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) by completing a supplier/vendor change information request form. Switching to EFT ensures secure, reliable, and timely payment directly to your bank account, typically within two business days. EFTs are cost-effective, easy to set up, and eliminate the delays and risks associated with mailing cheques.

The Supplier Change Request to EFT form must be completed by an authorized representative of the company and a copy of a void cheque or bank letter must be included. If you receive a form, these can be returned to Shared Services through the university service portal.
