Program structure and requirements

Four graduate-level courses and one field experience course:

  • one core course (MACE 501)
  • one course in program planning and evaluation
  • two courses in research methods (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, Indigenous, arts-based)
  • one CBRE Experience (INT D 541)

The CBRE certificate includes two program-specific courses, MACE 501 and INT D 541.

MACE 501: The Practice of Community Engaged Scholarship - an introduction to the conceptual foundations of the practice of community- engaged research and evaluation, with application across diverse disciplines, and forms of engagement (e.g., health care, community development) and community contexts, (e.g., government, Indigenous). Students will examine models, processes and practices of community engaged scholarship that incorporate principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.

INT D 541: CBRE Experience - students will participate in a supervised field experience and demonstrate the integration of concepts, principles and approaches learned in MACE 501. Students will prepare a knowledge-sharing activity appropriate to the field experience setting. Normally, students will be expected to complete all of their CBRE Graduate Certificate course requirements prior to enrolling in INT D 541.

Registration for MACE 501 and INT D 541 is available through Bear Tracks

The certificate also requires the completion of three elective courses: one 3-credit graduate-level course in program planning and evaluation, and two 3-credit graduate-level courses in research methods (quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods). If you have a course you feel may meet the requirements for these courses, please consult with the CBRE academic advisor, who will consider your request pending a review of the course syllabus and your academic transcript to verify successful course completion.
