Celebrating Great Research: Governor General's Gold Medal Winners
Every year during Fall convocation, the University of Alberta awards the Governor General's Gold Medal to two doctoral graduates who achieve the highest academic standing.
Billy-Ray Belcourt, '20 PhD (English and Film Studies)
Dr. Belcourt is a Cree poet and Rhodes scholar who has won acclaim for his accounts of life as a gay indigenous person in Western Canada. He earned his doctorate in just three years. Learn more.
Margo Regier, '20 PhD (Earth and Atmosopheric Sciences)
Born in Newton, Kansas, Dr. Regier undertook research that focused on the stabilization of 2.5 billion-year-old continental crust, identifying the ways in which diamond forms. Learn more.
