Professor Emeritus Ron Hopp’s name will now hang above a classroom in the Law Centre thanks to the generosity of an anonymous University of Alberta Faculty of Law graduate.

A grand opening for Ronald G. Hopp Hall was held on October 26, hosted in the newly named classroom.

Hopp graduated with the Class of 1971 and served as a full-time faculty member for 30 years.

He is well known in the legal community for his commitment to pro bono legal services. He began advising students at Student Legal Services in 1976 and served as an advising lawyer at that organization for more than four decades. Significantly, he was a member of the class that launched SLS.

For his service to the community and to the Faculty of Law, he has received numerous awards and recognitions.

In 2007, he was recognized for his lifetime of outstanding service by the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association by being awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Pro Bono Legal Service.

In 2016, he was the recipient of the Eileen Nash Memorial Award for his commitment to enhancing the quality of living of under-privileged people in Edmonton thanks to his pro bono work.

Each year, the Law Students’ Association also presents the Ron Hopp award, given to the faculty member most involved in student life.
