World Renowned Religious Scholar & Chanter to Perform in Exclusive Showcase

Traditional religious scholar and chanter Shaykh Hussam al-Din Farfour will perform for students, faculty and the public in an exclusive world music showcase on:

Based in Damascus, Syria, Shaykh Farfour is Vice Rector of Al-Fatih Islamic Institute and Lecturer at the Great Umayyad Mosque. He is best known for his Sufi chanting and Quranic recitation and has studied Islamic spirituality in Syria, Egypt and Azerbaijan.
Accompanying Shaykh Farfour will be Dr. Ashraf El-Assaly (oud), Abdelhadi Ouajdoni (oud), Nadir Bellahmer (violin) and Dr. Michael Frishkopf (nay).
Hosted by the University of Alberta Department of Music, the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC) and the ECMC Chair, as well as the Canadian Centre for Ethnomusicology, this one day event is open to the public and free to attend.
