Graduate Student Funding

Graduate students in Nursing are strongly encouraged to be prepared to self-fund their studies as guaranteed funding is not available.

The Faculty of Nursing has funding for a limited number of graduate research and teaching assistantships.  Postings for these positions are shared with current students as they become available, and students apply to supervising faculty members for consideration for these positions.

Some graduate supervisors may be able to provide funding through external grants that support their research projects. Graduate supervisors will also assist students to apply for funding from sources that are appropriate to the student’s program of studies and level of academic achievement.

The University of Alberta has a significant award and funding program for graduate students, with awards offered both by the Faculty and the University. Generous donors and sponsors make it possible to offer awards to graduate students in the Faculty of Nursing. Most funding opportunities are by competitive application. Please consult the website of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research for additional information about awards and funding.

The Government of Canada is also a possible resource for International scholarship opportunities for non-Canadians.
