Drug Development and Innovation Centre (DDIC)

The Drug Development and Innovation Centre (DDIC) is a unique initiative of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta to help bridge the gap between basic sciences and clinical research.

The Centre's purpose is to foster research and education in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a dedicated team working on translational research and development in the following areas:

  • Biopharmaceutics
  • Drug Delivery
  • Quality Control
  • Regulatory Sciences

A team of highly specialized researchers and trainees is available to assist in the commercialization of modern therapeutic products. We believe that innovation can only be achieved by excellence in research and that quality and advancements in technology drive projects to success.

Our team works closely with industry or academia partners to design and create the next generation of therapeutic drug delivery.

The Center provides specialized prototypes of novel and conventional dosage forms through testing and production of clinical trial materials take place in its pharmaceutical test laboratory and Heath Canada-licensed cleanroom. The Centre's unique infrastructure allows clinical testing support to take place from study design to the finished product.

DDIC offers novel solutions and opportunities in numerous areas for the following groups:

  • Novel delivery systems, Nano Formulations, Design and Prove of Concept Studies: Researchers
  • Product R&D, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs: Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Joint Clinical Research & Clinical Trial Dosage Forms: Clinical Investigators
  • Industrial Pharmacy & Regulatory Sciences: Students and Trainees
