The University of Alberta banner is flying at half-mast from January 10-13, 2022 in remembrance of Christopher Blades, Facilities and Operations Manager at Augustana Campus.

From Dean Tryphonopoulos:

Chris Blades, our much-esteemed Facilities and Operations Manager, passed away very unexpectedly at home on December 30. As you may imagine, the sudden nature of his passing has been a shock to his loving family. I ask that you keep Joy, Francine, Vanessa, Jalene, Sean and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Chris started his employment with Camrose Lutheran College in 1982, nearly 40 years ago! When I think of Chris, I remember his genuine smile when he greeted people and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who required his experience and expertise–but also to be very creative with problem-solving. I’ll also remember his passion for sustainability and the positive imprint he has left across our campus. The changes in our physical buildings/campus and within the Augustana community will be an enduring part of Chris’ legacy. As just one example, we remember his enthusiasm for planting trees with the graduands. His other passion, coaching and volunteering for Camrose Minor Soccer, will also live on as his legacy to the greater Camrose community.

I know many faculty and staff worked with Chris over the years and I am sure that you have many memories and stories. If you wish to share your memories or a message for the family please send it to augdean@ualberta.ca. We will put together a package of condolences which will be shared in the coming days.

You can find Chris’ obituary here.
