Augustana's visual art program provides a strong foundation in the history, theory, and practice of visual art. It is particularly suited for students who are in the very early stages of their artistic development.
Art gives you options
The visual art program combines studio practice with the study of art history and theory. Students are equipped with a strong foundation in practice, theory and history, while developing skills in visual analysis and communication. Students who major in visual art choose between the General Stream, with its emphasis on studio practice, and the Art History Stream. Students can also minor in either Studio Art or Art History.
Not just for artists
Art can be an ongoing adventure of discovery whether you make it a livelihood or not. Art offers training in visual thinking, visual communication, and creative problem solving. Students are encouraged to enter studies in studio practice or art history with no background in art, and without submitting a portfolio.
