Parkinson and Movement Disorders Program

Our centre has been providing care for patients with Parkinson's and movement disorders since first established in 1990. We are relocated at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, operating as a joint initiative involving the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services. Academic professionals in our group have full-time University faculty appointments.

Our mission is to provide expert medical care and to maintain an active cutting-edge research program in movement disorders.

Our care philosophy is based on the beliefs that:

  • patients and families must be empowered to play an active role in their own treatment through the provision of education,
  • an interdisciplinary approach to management is most effective at maintaining quality of life, and;
  • the best care is provided by a team active at the "cutting edge" of medical research.

We also believe in the corollary, namely that the most productive clinical research is carried out by a team proficient in providing state-of-the-art medical care for patients with movement disorders.

The program was designated in 2007 by the Parkinson Foundation as a Center of Excellence.

Patients we see in the clinic have chronic diseases. You should have a regular family physician to follow you on a regular basis and to address general medical issues. Your family physician is the best person whom we communicate with and make management recommendations. Please use this link to find more information if you need a family physician:
