Augustana Campus is excited to celebrate our alumni, Thomas Trombetta, '16 BA, as one of this year's Top 30 Under 30, as recognized by the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation.

Prior to graduating in 2016 with their bachelor of arts in global & development studies, Thomas was heavily involved on campus. An international student from Brazil, Thomas was a member of the Augustana Students' Association, Augustana Queers & Allies, the Augustana Sociology Club, the Residence Life Professional Association, the International Students Council and was also a residence assistant. During their time at Augustana, Thomas was inspired by "All of the strong students of colour, all of the resilient queer and trans student, who despite the conservative surrounding[s], took a step forward in teaching others about anti-oppression and equity."

As the Prairies Regional Manager with the Community-Based Research Centre at the Edmonton Men's Health Collective (EMHC), Thomas is dedicated to sparking change in the field of queer and trans health to create a Canada where queer and/or racialized people are no longer targets of violence and systemic oppression. In addition to this work, Thomas remains invested in their home country of Brazil and has been interviewed by Al-Jazeera on the decriminalization of gun use in Brazil and has written an article for VICE Magazine on how Brazil's "War on Ideology" impacts Canada.

Update: Thomas now works as the Community Manager of Freddie, a health start-up providing easy and inclusive PrEP to LGBTQ2S+ Canadians.
