Management co-op program launches at Augustana
Lale Fassone - 29 October 2026

Augustana bachelor of management students have a new option to gain hands-on experience and build professional relationships to enhance their career prospects after graduation.
The newly launched Augustana Co-operative Education (ACE) program allows students to participate in paid internships during their degree. Over the course of the program's three work terms, students will be able to build professional confidence, networks and skills.
The ACE program plays a crucial role in Augustana’s strategic plan, says Dr. John Parkins, dean of Augustana.
“A core priority is expanding high-impact academic programs and rural pathways for career advancement. Launching the ACE program directly delivers on this vision through reciprocal partnerships with regional businesses and organizations."
Jayla Lindberg, manager of work-integrated learning at Augustana, notes, “faculty and partners have been incredibly excited about the development of the ACE program.” Lindberg mentions her team has also heard how the program is already creating excitement among prospective students.
The program will start accepting applications from current management students in early January 2027. Once accepted into the program, students will complete an orientation before applying to approved opportunities. These opportunities will vary significantly depending on the industry.
“Students will be able to focus the job search on the industry and sector that is of interest to them,” Lindberg mentions.
Partner organizations and businesses will be primarily local. However, the ACE program team will ensure that opportunities are available across Alberta, Canada and internationally.
These collaborations not only aid students, but also the organization and business itself. Brad Geddes, a lecturer within Augustana’s management program, said that employers will gain emerging management talent and a low-risk pipeline for future hires, forming a real connection to the Augustana and Camrose community.
The first co-op internships within the program will begin in September 2027. During these internships, students will be enrolled in an Augustana Work Experience (AUWXP) course that will have students reflect on their work experience intentionally. Enrolling in the program will also subsequently create a cohort of students working through the co-op together, thereby building a community of practice in which they can learn from each other.
Geddes emphasizes the importance of the co-op to a student's degree: “ACE is built into the bachelor of management degree, not bolted on. The degree and the co-op continually inform each other, making the workplace a part of the curriculum.”
The ACE program is one way Augustana is providing opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for their success.
“The ACE program elevates our commitment to work-integrated learning by directly connecting classroom theory with real-world practice,” says Parkins. “Through immersive, paid work terms, management students can sharpen their skills in professional settings, ensuring they are equipped to thrive in dynamic workplace environments.”
