What is Music?
Study and perform in voice, keyboard, conducting, or general (comprehensive) music streams. Students will be able to explore career pathways in performance, music education, music therapy, arts administration, musicology and more.

Nick’s experience at Augustana was dominated by both daunting challenges and rewarding relationships, allowing him to compose a piece of music just after graduation that led to an international debut.
Course Highlights
Study of western European art music from the mid-18th century to the 20th century, in the context of general cultural history.
Fundamental conducting techniques as applied to instrumental and vocal music.
A foundational course in the theory and practice of teaching music from pre-K to 6. Special emphasis on classroom observation and practical experience with the use of age-appropriate techniques, strategies and materials.
A survey course designed to explore the range of benefits that music can offer to the community as related to health and wellness.
Critical examination of popular music, with a focus on analytical paradigms and methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to interpretation.
