University tables third settlement offer
The university tabled its third consecutive settlement proposal to AASUA yesterday, setting out proposals on outstanding issues in bargaining between the parties. On Thursday evening, AASUA responded with counterproposals which the university is now reviewing. AASUA has also stated that this is a positive turn in negotiations, and that it now wishes to return to the bargaining table. Details of the university’s settlement proposal will be provided in a subsequent update.

The university is encouraged by this development and the opportunity to resume negotiations. The university’s focus has been on reaching a negotiated agreement that avoids any work stoppage, which would have lasting negative impacts on the entire university community.
University has not applied for a lockout at this time
Recent communications from AASUA indicate that the university has applied to the Alberta Labour Relations Board for a lockout. This is incorrect. The university has not yet applied for a lockout, but continues to focus on achieving a negotiated agreement with AASUA through constructive dialogue.
