Preparing your space for the winter closure

Learn what you can do to ensure your space is ready when you return.

The university is closed from Wednesday, December 25, 2024 to Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Here’s how to get your space on campus ready if you’re planning to be away during the closure.

  • Clear out any trash from your office and take it to the nearest Zero Waste sorting station.
  • Take home or dispose of all food items from personal space and refrigerators.
  • Secure or take home personal items.
  • Turn off or unplug all electronic devices including heaters, coffee makers, photocopiers and computers.
  • Put away and lock up portable items of value (e.g. laptops, cameras) and do not leave them in the open.
  • Where possible, remove computer equipment and small property from the floor and place it in a higher area in case of water escape.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors on your way out.
  • Do a final walkthrough of your space before leaving.

There are additional considerations for laboratories and research spaces. Read about safeguarding your research site for full instructions on keeping your workspace, office or laboratory safe while you’re away during winter closure.
