Urban Cultural Mosaics in Ukraine: An Academic & Artistic Research Collaboration
26 March 2021
The Contemporary Ukraine Studies Program (CUSP) of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) at University of Alberta, in partnership with Kharkiv Karazin National University, the Yermilov Center of Contemporary Art (Kharkiv, Ukraine), and the CityFace Project is marking the 50th anniversary of the adoption of Canada’s official multiculturalism policy with a collaborative initiative examining the idea of multiculturalism in relation to Ukraine.
Considering the myriad interpretations of multiculturalism—for example, a signifier of demographic diversity, a political philosophy of equality, a set of policies, or a public discourse—the project will discuss the achievements and challenges of different models of multiculturalism from a European and global comparative perspective. A series of events hosted online and in person, including an art exhibition, symposium, and a series of lectures is planned for the duration of the project, with additional events and initiatives to come.
