CIUS Press Published French-Language Edition of Valentina Kuryliw’s The Historian’s Craft Lesson on Human Rights and the Holodomor

CIUS Press published the French-language edition of The Historian’s Craft Lesson on Human Rights and the Holodomor on February 23, 2026, expanding access to high-quality Holodomor and human rights education for Francophone educators and students.
The 90-page classroom resource offers an engaging, inquiry-based approach to teaching both human rights and the Holodomor. Authored by Valentina Kuryliw, Director of Education at the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC), the publication is adaptable across grade levels and diverse teaching contexts and provides clear, well-structured strategies that educators can implement directly in the classroom.
Each student learning task is accompanied by a downloadable PowerPoint presentation developed by Sophia Isajiw, designed to support instruction and deepen student engagement.
Through collaborative analysis of primary sources, students assume the role of historical investigators. They explore the complexities of human rights and social justice within the context of the Holodomor, fostering critical thinking about how historical actions continue to shape contemporary society. The resource encourages meaningful reflection on responsibility, justice, and the pursuit of a more equitable future.
This publication marks an important step in strengthening French-language resources for teaching about the Holodomor and advancing human rights education in Canada and beyond.
