Unveiling the Official Artwork for the 2026 CIUS International Symposium
13 July 2026
We are delighted to unveil the official artwork for the 2026 CIUS International Symposium, created by internationally acclaimed Ukrainian illustrator Sergiy Maidukov. Known for his distinctive visual language, Sergiy's work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, and many other leading international publications. Through his illustrations, he has become one of the most recognizable contemporary Ukrainian artists on the global stage.
For the Symposium, Sergiy created a minimalist composition inspired by its theme, Recentring the Humanities: Ukraine and the World. The dynamic central form evokes both a rising sun and the act of re-centring itself—a visual metaphor for renewal, opening new horizons, and placing Ukraine at the heart of global conversations. The composition also marks 50 years of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, while its clean geometry is designed to carry the Symposium's identity across every element of the event. We are deeply grateful to Serhiy for helping give visual expression to the ideas at the heart of this milestone gathering.
