Olga Alexeeva

After studying and teaching in Paris, Beijing, and Taipei, Olga V. Alexeeva joined the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) in 2012 as a Professor of Chinese Studies. She is also a Senior Fellow at the China Institute of the University of Alberta and an associate member of the Graduate School of International Studies at Laval University. Her expertise lies in China’s geopolitics and international relations, reflected in extensive publications on the Arctic, the China–Russia strategic partnership, and the geopolitical dimensions of Asian connectivity (Belt and Road Initiative, International North–South Transport Corridor). Her research has been supported by major funding agencies, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Society and Culture (FRQSC), the French National Research Agency (ANR), and the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation (Taiwan). Beyond her academic work, Olga V. Alexeeva maintains active engagement with Canada’s governmental and diplomatic communities. She served as co-facilitator of China: A Global Power in Transition, a course offered by the Canadian Foreign Service Institute (Global Affairs Canada) from 2021 to 2024, and is a regular speaker in executive training programs at the Canada School of Public Service (2022–2025). Her expertise has also been sought during several high-level strategic dialogues, including the Franco–Canadian Track 1.5 Dialogues on China (2023), the EU–Canada consultations on China and Russia (2025), and the Canadian Scholars’ Delegation visit to Taiwan (2025).
