How China Sees the World
How China Sees the World is a multi-year research project supported by The China Institute and led by Dr. Reza Hasmath. Its core output is the annual Chinese Citizens’ Global Perception Survey (CCGPS), produced annually since 2023. It offers unique and data-driven insights into how people across mainland China perceive international actors including Canada, international relations, global governance, and China’s role in the world.
These reports track evolving attitudes and the domestic factors that shape China’s engagement with the global community, thereby providing a useful baseline for identifying emerging trends in chinese public opinion.
CCGPS Report 2026
The year's findings portray a public that is confident, pragmatic and selectively engaged: convinced of China’s arrival as a leading power, firmly attached to Russia, increasingly wary of Japan, and reluctant either to sever economic ties with the West or to export China’s political model abroad.
