Community Service-Learning (CSL) is pleased to provide project funding to CSL student Geneva Ricks. Geneva will collaborate with the Edmonton Coalition on Housing and Homelessness (ECOHH) team to organize and present a two-day conference on June 5-6, 2015. This project is designed to engage people who are not yet involved in housing advocacy, and seeks to increase understanding of the value of housing security to personal and community well-being.
The 'Right to Housing' conference hopes to mobilize for a cause that recognizes the need to ensure safe, secure, and affordable housing as a human right for all Edmontonians. The primary objective of Geneva's project is to educate the general public on housing insecurity and Canada's housing crisis, as well as to give guided insight on how participants may become actively involved in enforcing secure housing as a right in their communities.

The conference will include:
- keynote speaker, Michael Shapcott, a Canadian academic who is among the most well-versed on Canada's housing crisis and housing security related issues. Michael is currently seconded to the Prince's Charities Canada / Les Œuvres de bienfaisance du prince au Canada, and is a member of The Wellesley Institute;
- presentations;
- an information fair consisting of various involved organizations;
- a guided tour through the Edmonton core led by homelessness experienced people.
