CMPUT 643 - Fundamentals of Wireless Communication Networks

Overview

This course will discuss fundamentals of wireless signal transmission and signaling formats, in particular, basic effects such as signal fading and its consequences on wireless signal integrity. The course will then discuss fundamental accessing principles for multi-terminal wireless networks based on random access and collision avoidance, such as ALOHA , spread ALOHA and its derivatives. We'll discuss the IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.15 standards as state-of-the-art case studies. We will then review recent results in network capacity research and introduce the concept of multiple packet reception as a key ingredient for future wireless network systems.
