The Shack – Science Hardware Makerspace

Your Campus Science Hardware Makerspace
The Shack is a campus-wide workshop available for use by any students, staff, and faculty who want to engage in the creation of electronics, 3D-printed projects, and everything else nestled under the umbrella of the maker movement.
The Maker Movement
Often considered a contemporary culture or subculture, the maker movement comprises tinkerers and DIY-enthusiasts alike who find joy in creating new devices, tinkering with existing ones, and sharing their findings and experiences in an open-source format.
The maker movement commonly resides where the DIY and hacker cultures intersect. This means that the creation and improvement of technologies can also be extended to non-physical items like software.
What Does The Shack Do?
The Shack is a free space on campus where employees and volunteers work to bring new ideas to life and offer advice on everything "maker".
With an extensive equipment inventory including:
- circuit boards,
- 3 different kinds of 3D printers,
- a laser cutter,
- lathes,
- mills,
- drill presses,
- soldering equipment,
- and more,
virtually any creation is feasible at The Shack. Also be sure to check out the projects page to get an idea of the sort of things the shackers are making.
