Have you met… Keanna Wallace?

Tell us about yourself!

Hi, I’m Keanna (she/her) and I’m the Faculty Research Coordinator. I joined the Faculty of Education in 2024, but I’ve been working at the University for eight years. I am a lot (not a little!) obsessed with my dog Vera, so if you run into me you will be subjected to a slideshow of her best looks.

What did you do prior to joining the Faculty of Education?

I’m a UAlberta alumna who never left. During my BSc, I volunteered as a student research assistant and an editor for an undergraduate research journal. This sparked an interest in research and led me to full time opportunities in the research space, including in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and now here in the Faculty of Education.

Tell us about your role in the Faculty.

I work with the Associate Dean Research to support research initiatives in the Faculty. This could include anything from supporting grants and applications, to compiling Faculty research reports, or coordinating Faculty research events. I also work with the Associate Dean Integrated Strategic Initiatives to facilitate strategic planning in the Faculty.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

The variety – between the research and strategic planning portfolios there is always a different project to work on or a problem to solve. Never a dull moment! I also love getting to work with my colleagues in the Dean’s Office. They are knowledgeable, kind and hilarious.

What’s your favourite place on campus and why?

Rutherford Library. Being in the stacks makes me think of all the infinite possibilities out there – books to read, topics to learn about, and places to go. The Daily Grind is a close second, for getting my caffeine fix.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to read, so I’m usually in the middle of a book or browsing for the next one. I also like to try out new board games and activities with my husband and friends. We recently entered a speed-puzzling competition and are now planning a trivia night.
