INT D 505: Writing for Graduate Studies
Starting in Fall 2026, INT D 505 will be open to students in the following faculties: Arts, Education, Business and Law.
WHAT IS INT D 505?
This course is designed to support international graduate students, but is open to all students who are seeking to strengthen their writing and analytical skills. Writing for Graduate Studies integrates active reading, reflection, research and critical analysis into the writing process, deepening engagement and scholarly understanding, and supporting students in becoming better writers.
SIX MODULES OVER 13 WEEKS

1. Foundations of graduate writing

2. Academic integrity and the ethical use of AI and writing tools

3. Critical reading and evaluating sources

4. Writing in different academic genres

5. Developing arguments and synthesizing sources

6. Advanced writing techniques
WRITING FOCUS
INT D 505 integrates active reading, reflection, research and critical analysis into the writing process. Students apply writing practices and conventions allowing them to communicate clearly and effectively in their courses through writing tasks such as:
- Reflection and critical analysis
- Synthesis and literature reviews
- Research questions and proposal writing
- Discipline-specific writing tasks
Course Offerings
- Offered 4 terms a year:
- Fall term: September - December (13 weeks; 3 hours of class per week)
- Winter term: January - April (13 weeks; 3 hours of class per week)
- Spring term: May - June (condensed 7 weeks; 6 hours of class per week)
- Summer Term: July - August (condensed 7 weeks; 6 hours of class per week)
