Thank you for your interest! This event, along with the waitlist, is now full.

Come join us for three hours of throwing clay at Workshop Studios and hear from alumna Melissa Casey, ‘12 MEd, a Professional Certified Leadership Coach by day and Embodied Ceramics clay slinger by night!

This hands-on workshop will include a crash course in wheel throwing and hand building from expert instructors, a talk from Mel Casey about her experience with ceramics and life in Calgary as a leadership coach, and time to mingle with fellow alumni and friends over wine and cheese! By the end of the night, you will produce 2 beautiful vessels that Workshop Studios will then glaze and fire for you.

Please note there are two dates offered for this event as capacity is limited. Please only sign up for one of the two dates. This is an 18+ event, no minors allowed.

This event is open to all alumni and their guests.

Please note: Workshop Studios strives to be accessible to every body, but they are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible at this time. You will be required to climb stairs to access the building, and to the reception and talk area (no elevators).

Everyone has the right to feel safe and included at Workshop Studios regardless of age, ancestry, colour, family status, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, mental disability, physical disability, place of origin, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or source of income.

Speaker Info

Wearing two hats in two very different pursuits, Melissa (Mel) Casey, ‘12 MEd, is a Leadership Coach by day and a practicing ceramic artist by every other hour she can spend in her studio. Her coaching practice focuses on developing people leaders and teams through the lens of emotional intelligence and conscious leadership practices – elements that require deep thought and mindfulness. The practice of ceramics offers a balancing element and an unanticipated opening to the exploration of mindfulness through embodiment – spinning clay shows little mercy for drifting presence. From the comfort of her cozy 39 sq ft studio, Mel focuses primarily on functional wares and sculptural design pieces with a design flavour that gives a nod to mid-century modern. Based in Mohkinstsis/Calgary, Alberta, she is privileged to be part of the community of artists at Workshop Studios, located in the community of Inglewood.

Prior to the world of coaching and ceramics and life in Calgary, Mel was based in Edmonton where she worked at the University of Alberta for over 17 years and has completed her ‘98 BSc, ‘08 BA, and ‘12 MEd.

You can learn more about Mel by visiting her websites: Embodied Ceramics and Casey Executive Coaching.
