Education - Field Experience
Overview
The Field Experience in the Faculty of Education is designed to give undergraduate students (pre-service teachers) the opportunity to merge their theoretical learning with practical experience in a school setting. Students will complete several field experiences throughout their degree program including Introductory Field Experiences and Advanced Field Experiences. In doing so, they will gain hands-on experience in planning instruction, teaching lessons, managing classrooms, adapting instruction to meet individual needs and assessing progress.
Benefits
Through field experiences, pre-service teachers are able to apply their theoretical knowledge in real life school settings, explore different classroom/school environments and engage with elementary and secondary level students. As such, pre-service teachers can emerge from their undergraduate experience having developed technical and transferable skills that will help them become confident educators. Pre-service student teachers also benefit from the mentorship and guidance of experienced mentor teachers while in the field.
