Program Overview
UTSIP Kashiwa | University of Tokyo Summer Internship Program is an intensive seven-week summer program that provides a hands-on research experience to undergraduate students in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Information Technology, International Studies, Materials Sciences, Advanced Energy, Ocean Science, Physics, and Sustainability Science Studies.
The program aims to expose undergraduates to world-leading research in the fields of natural and social sciences. Participants are assigned a laboratory and will conduct research under the guidance of a faculty member or a senior graduate student.
When Can I Go?
Terms Offered: Spring/Summer
- Usually two program dates to choose from:
- Late May to mid-July
- Mid-June to early August
Duration: 7 weeks
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program and should not have completed their bachelor's degree before the end of the UTSIP program.

Fees + Costs
UTSIP Program fee: 70,000 JPY
UTSIP provides:
- 130,000 JPY scholarship to participants
- Accommodation
- Health insurance for the duration of the program
- A field trip/cultural activity
Students are encouraged to apply for funding even if they do not have a confirmed internship to avoid missing important deadlines.
