Overview

Located at Ritsumeikan University (Kinugasa Campus) in northwestern Kyoto, a 1,200-year-old city rich in culture and art.

Classes include:

  • Japanese Language Classes
    • Conducted for three hours each weekday morning, providing an intensive and thorough introduction to the Japanese language. 
    • Students take a language placement test to determine which class level they will enter.
  • Japan Studies
    •  Provides a general overview of Japanese culture. Lectures are conducted by specialists in business, history, sociology, and traditional culture and focus on business, history, sociology, and traditional culture.
    • Students participate in various weekly fieldwork activities to reinforce what they have learned.

Eligibility Requirements

Open to: All Faculties. Check with partner university for pre-requisites requirements. 

GPA: Cumulative 2.5 on the last 24 credits of graded coursework or as required by student's faculty.

Application process: Students approved submit a separate application with partner university. 

Level: Undergraduate

Transfer Credit: To be considered for transfer credit, all students must achieve a minimum grade of C from Ritsumeikan University. Please consult your faculty advisor before participating in the program to discuss transfer credit.

Program Information

Ritsumeikan University offers programs for undergraduate and graduate students with minimal knowledge of the Japanese language, providing a comprehensive introduction to Japanese language and culture.

Ritsumeikan Summer/Winter Japanese Program (RSJP/RWJP) is a five-week program, while Ritsumeikan Summer/Winter Japanese Program Express (RSJP/RWJP Express) is a two-week intensive program.

The programs consist of two major subjects: intensive Japanese language class, which provides them with a thorough introduction to the language, and Japan Studies classes, where you can learn about Japanese culture and take part in fieldwork to cultural spots in Kyoto.
