Call for Submissions
The John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre has been publishing Health Ethics Today for over three decades. In the early years, there were relatively few publication venues for health ethics scholarship. While the number of newsletters, journals, and other venues has grown, we recognize that Health Ethics Today continues to be valued as an accessible, open-access venue for academics, healthcare professionals, and others interested in health ethics. We are, therefore, pleased to announce this open call for submissions to Health Ethics Today.
We welcome contributions from students, health care providers, and scholars. The following criteria guide peer review for acceptance/inclusion:
- Novelty and significance: Does the manuscript make a contribution to health ethics? Is it original? Relevant? Insightful? Is it useful to the reader and/or practitioner?
- Clarity: Are examples and/or arguments clearly presented and well supported?
- Rigor: Is there the explicit use of/interaction with theory and/or empirical studies (depending on the focus of the paper) that grounds the work?
- Engagement: Does the paper have the potential to engage the reader to “think differently” by raising questions, stimulating critical reflection, and/or suggesting innovative directions for clinical practice?
- Quality of the writing: Is the paper clearly articulated with sufficient attention paid to word choice, spelling, grammar, and so forth? Are terms and concepts key to the scholarship communicated clearly and in sufficient detail?
We ask that submissions do not exceed 2000 words and are formatted according to the APA Formatting and Style Guide (7th Edition) for the text and reference list. Note that we include tables, references, and other document aspects in the word count limits. Please include your contact information on a separate title page with your submission. Also, please include information regarding any existing/overlapping publications in the cover letter.
There are neither article processing charges nor open-access fees associated with Health Ethics Today. Also, please note we encourage authors to review previous issues of Health Ethics Today to appreciate the scope our publication.
Our aspiration is to publish Health Ethics Today on-line on a biannual to annual basis based on the number of submissions received, recognizing each issues tends to comprise 5 to 10 articles.
