MD Outreach
Established in 2024, MD Outreach is the umbrella organization supporting initiatives that are designed, organized and led by medical students within the University of Alberta MD Program. These initiatives include Asclepius Medical Camp (Edmonton & Grande Prairie), the Asclepius Roadshow, MD Ambassadors (Edmonton & Grande Prairie), MD AIDE and Rockin’ Docs.
MD Outreach was created to bring these initiatives together, making it easier to engage diverse populations and strengthen connections between student-led initiatives.
Asclepius Medical Camp for Youth
A week-long camp founded in 2009, designed for high school students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, rural and underrepresented backgrounds. The camp offers an opportunity to learn about medical school, the admissions process and explore medicine as a potential career path. Students learn clinical skills, solve medical cases, attend lectures and learn about financial planning while having the opportunity to speak with medical students and physicians.

Asclepius Roadshow
Asclepius Roadshow is a free, 2-day program inspired by the Asclepius Medical Camp for Youth, offering high school students from rural communities a “mini medical school” experience. The program is designed for students who cannot attend the Asclepius Medical Camp for Youth in Edmonton or Grande Prairie summer camps. Participants explore family medicine, attend lectures on medical school and the application process, take part in hands-on clinical skills activities, and collaborate with Allied Health professionals.
MD Ambassadors
MD Ambassadors is an initiative led by the University of Alberta Medical Students’ Association (MSA). Ambassadors provide high school and post-secondary students from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to explore medicine through presentations at high schools across Edmonton, clinical skills workshops and events on campus and at local schools. They also offer guidance on the admissions process, including MCAT prep, course planning and answering questions.

MD Admissions Initiative for Diversity and Equity (MD AIDE)
MD AIDE program is dedicated to helping current students who are interested in applying to medical school and are from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. MD AIDE provides free MCAT course preparation, MMI interview practice, one-on-one mentorship from current medical students, and access to study resources, reducing financial and systemic barriers to entering medicine.

Rockin’ Docs
Rockin’ Docs Summer Camp is a free, medical student-led program serving elementary and middle school students from underrepresented and low socioeconomic backgrounds. The camp introduces children to science, healthcare careers, and healthy lifestyle habits through engaging, hands-on activities. Rockin’ Docs continues to create meaningful early learning opportunities that inspire interest in healthcare and science.
