Graduate Programs and Admissions

Participating in one of our graduate programs will position you as an innovative and expert nurse leader who is ready to advance professional nursing roles in diverse and complex contexts.
Your graduate studies will build knowledge and skills that enable you to identify and explore important questions and issues in nursing practice and health systems, inquire systematically as you gather and generate knowledge, and articulate findings to diverse audiences. You will consider important questions relevant to your workplace, your current and future roles, health outcomes and health system transformation. Whether your career aspirations are related to research, education, leadership or clinical practice, your graduate studies will prepare you for current and emerging nursing roles.
Graduate Admissions News
We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2025.

Canadian Indigenous History and Contemporary Context Requirement
All students admitted to a Nursing graduate program are required to be familiar with Canadian Indigenous history and contemporary context, which are essential to Nursing. After admission, but prior to beginning any Nursing graduate program, incoming students must complete the University of Alberta's Indigenous Canada Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). This is a 12-module, non-credit course. Students can choose to either formally register and receive a certificate of completion, or they can take it free-of-charge.
Evidence of completion (screenshot or certificate copy) is to be sent to the Nursing graduate office prior to attending the first course of the MN or PhD program. Completion of a previous course can be used to fulfill this requirement and the course outline should be submitted to the Nursing graduate office for approval of equivalency.
