The Faculty of Nursing is recognized among the top nursing schools in Canada and around the world. Our reputation is built on more than a century of excellence in nursing education, research and practice. Our alumni, leaders and innovators across the globe, embody the lasting impact of our programs.

Our vision is to lead transformative nursing education and research that improves healthcare across communities, systems, and populations. As a pioneer in Canadian nursing education, we implemented the first Master of Nursing program in Western Canada in 1975, and began the first fully-funded Nursing PhD program in Canada in 1991.

Since our founding in 1923 as Alberta's first university-based school of nursing, the Faculty of Nursing's aspirations and actions have been guided by core values drawn from the discipline of Nursing, the University community, and Canadian society. In particular, we value:

Our Location

The Faculty of Nursing is situated in the Dianne & Irving Kipnes Health Research Academy (Kipnes Academy) which is home to departments and student groups from six of the university's health science Faculties and is designed to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and interaction. Kipnes Academy has over 3400 student seats, state-of-the-art simulation labs, several student common areas and study spaces.
