Alberta Wide Nursing Rounds

Bringing nursing research and practice together to promote optimal health in Alberta

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta is proud to introduce Alberta-Wide Nursing Rounds, an evolution of our long-standing City-Wide Nursing Rounds. This province-wide initiative connects frontline nurses, nurse practitioners and nursing students with researchers and educators to address the most pressing issues in nursing practice today.

Through these interactive sessions, we share research findings directly relevant to clinical care while also creating space for nurses to voice the challenges, questions and priorities that shape their practice. By expanding from City-Wide to Alberta-Wide, our goal is to strengthen the bridge between nursing research and practice across the province, amplify the voices of nurses, and foster knowledge exchange that benefits patients, families and communities.

Format: Monthly Zoom sessions. Note: The dates and times for the 2026 sessions are to be determined. We are in the process of developing the 2026 schedule. If you are interested in attending these rounds, we would appreciate your input on the proposed timing of the monthly sessions. Please complete a short survey to help us identify potential dates and times for future sessions. 

Whether you are a student, new graduate or experienced nurse, we invite you to join us as we work together to advance nursing knowledge, enhance clinical practice and promote optimal health for all Albertans.

June 18, 2026: In celebration of Seniors' Month, Dr. Holly Symonds-Brown and her team discuss Aging on the Margins of the Community. She also presents on the Provincial Dementia Primary Care Pathways Project. Haley Daniel and Leif Gregerson, co-researcher,  present findings from the community-based participatory action study: Reimagining Aging Futures study.

May 21, 2026: Celebrating Emerging Nursing Scholars - Presentations by Faculty of Nursing PhD candidates and recent graduates Kate Bykowski,  Dominique Duquette, Hanneke Croxen, Sobia Idrees, and KD King. Registration is free but required.

April 16, 2026: Immune Cell Therapy - the future of cancer treatment and supportive care? This session was led by Dr. Edith Pituskin (Professor, Faculty of Nursing) and Dr. Hanne Ostergaard (Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and Director of the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta (CRINA). The rest of the presenters included Angela Hamie BSc, Nanette Cox-Kennett RN MN(NP) and Cecilia Joy Kennett BScN.

March 26, 2026: Wildfires and Health presented by Dr. Jim Johansson (Assistant Professor and former wildland firefighter in Alberta) and Lindsay Komar (Research Director, College of Health Sciences, and Planetary Health Educator).

February 19, 2026: Women's Heart Health - Presenters: Jenna Semmens, Sela Scott, Shanzay Mehrani, Tori Gagne, Dasha Bosyy, and Nicole Tegg. These students are working with Dr. Colleen Norris' Women's Health Research program, focusing on women's Heart Health.
