Regulations
All regulations apply to students, faculty, staff and guests operating vehicles on campus.
Parking permits
- A parking permit does not guarantee a space on campus. It authorizes parking in designated locations if a space is available. If your parking location is full (such as during a large event),contact parking dispatch and they will guide you to a nearby space and add your plate to that structure for the day.
- A permit is required at all times to park on campus, including if you remain in your vehicle while dropping someone off or picking them up. Pay for hourly or daily parking.
- Daily and hourly parking permits are restricted to the lots where they are purchased, and are not provided in-and-out privileges.
- Monthly and annual permits can be transferred among non-restricted lots from 4:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. and all hours on weekends and holidays. Monthly and annual permits may only park in their designated lot for up to 72 hours. If your assigned lot is full, park at the nearest available lot and call Parking Services.
- Only one of the vehicles assigned to a permit is entitled to park on campus at any one time. All vehicles will be cited – one for non payment (code 117) and one for shared permit violation (code 128).
Parking locations
- No vehicle is allowed to park in a space that isn’t a designated parking area.
- Visitor parking is available as indicated unless closure signage is posted at the entrance of the parking location. Equipment functionality does not indicate open/closed status. Payment equipment remains functional during closures.
- Vehicles should never exceed 25 km/h for pedestrian safety.
- Vehicles should never park in service or fire lanes to ensure access for emergency response vehicles. Violating vehicles will be towed from campus at the owners’ expense.
- The University of Alberta assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to any vehicle or its contents.
- Alberta laws and municipal laws governing motor vehicle operation are in effect on all campus locations.

ENFORCEMENT
Video monitoring
Video monitoring is used on campus to enhance public safety, deter criminal activity and secure university property.
The personal information collected through video monitoring is collected under the authority of Section 33 (b) and (c) of the Alberta Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and will be protected under part 2 of that Act.

Vehicle towing

Vehicles consistently found in violation of regulations will be added to the tow-away list and removed from university property at any time. Any other vehicles that belong to the same owner or operator are also subject to be towed from university property. A vehicle will not be removed from the tow-away list until all citations are paid.
