Values
At the Peter Lougheed School of Leadership (PLSL), we seek to honour Mr. Peter Lougheed with our actions founded on values of Influence, Community, Inter- and Multi-Disciplinarity, and Caring.
Vision
Our vision is for students to find a home at the PLSL, learn and grow as leaders during their journey, have a significant positive impact on their communities, and when they graduate, their course grades will be the least important part of their résumé.
Mission
Our mission is to provide wide access for undergraduate students to our four online leadership courses, which together form the Certificate in Interdisciplinary Leadership Studies. We seek to build a community of students in each course by hosting engaging and interactive online synchronous seminars. We aim to increase a student's sense of belonging to the wider PLSL by hosting events where they can engage with each other across the courses. We support and encourage leadership practice and learning across all University of Alberta Campuses and Faculties, including PLSL support of Graduate Students with Teaching Assistantships. At the PLSL we choose to lead first and manage second.

Richard Field, PhD
Director, INT D 307 Course Professor
Richard Field has been Interim Director of the PLSL since November 2023. He previously served as interim director for a one-year term that began on July 1, 2021. Richard brings extensive experience to his role as director, having earned his PhD from the University of Toronto in Leadership and Organizational Behaviour, an MBA from McMaster University, and a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. He has been a professor at the Alberta School of Business for over 30 years.
Leo Wong, PhD
INT D 407 Capstone Course Professor
Leo Wong is the Associate Dean, Education, for the Alberta School of Business and Professor for Peter Lougheed School of Leadership. Beginning in the Fall of 2024, he teaches the capstone course, INT D 407. In this course, students engage with one another in project-directed groups, including the leadership skills, theory and research they have enacted and participated in during their leadership education journey. Real-world problems are presented, analyzed, and addressed head-on, offering real-world experiences to motivate students to continue their leadership journeys beyond their time at the university.
Erik DeJong, PhD
Course Coordinator
With a PhD in educational psychology and a specialty in education technology, Erik uses psychological principles to engage students through applied technology. He joined the team in 2021 as Project Coordinator during a reimagining of PLSL's student offerings, resulting in the Inspired to Lead course series. Now, Erik ensures the instructional team and the PLSL director have the support they need as leadership programming expands. His role also includes Course Coordinator for the gateway course, INT D 101, allowing him to connect directly with teaching assistants and students as they pursue their leadership goals.
Kendra Woodall
INT D 207 Course Coordinator
Kendra received First-Class Honors in her BSc Honors program in Immunology and Infection at the U of A as well as a Certificate in Biomedical Research. She directly entered graduate studies and completed her MSc in Physiology, Cell and Developmental Biology. During this time, she was a teaching assistant for INT D 207 and INT D 307, and continued her involvement with INT D 207 after graduation. Kendra has thoroughly enjoyed coordinating these courses, creating course content, and connecting with students. She is grateful to be a part of the PLSL and to contribute wherever possible.
Angela Penny
Program Coordinator
Angela has been part of the University of Alberta since 2014, bringing her experience from Medicine & Dentistry and Computing Science to her current role at PLSL that began in 2022. She's the behind-the-scenes powerhouse who helps make everything run smoothly—from providing administrative support to students and coordinating lectures and workshops, to arranging staffing contracts and processing funding for student club leadership activities. Passionate about leadership and learning, Angela is always looking to learn and develop—and she’s excited to help students grow too!
Pauleanne Codilla
INT D 101 Course Co-Coordinator
Pauleanne Codilla is a first year Master of Public Health student. In 2025, she graduated with a BA in Psychology and a Certificate in Interdisciplinary Leadership Studies from the UofA. Prior to being a Co-Course Coordinator, Pauleanne was a Teaching Assistant for INT D 101 and INT D 407, and assisted in course content development for INT D 101. Beyond the PLSL, Pauleanne's leadership experiences include serving as President of the UofA Rotaract Club, District Rotaract Chair for Rotary International, and working in management for a non-profit organization in northern BC.
Aneerudh Aravindan
INT D 101 Course Co-Coordinator
Aneerudh is a recent finance and marketing graduate from the University of Alberta, holding certificates in Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Real Estate. Currently a Customer Success Manager at Alberta Blue Cross, he brings strong expertise in client engagement and project coordination. After supporting INT D 101 as a Teaching Assistant for the last two years and subsequently helping develop its course content, Aneerudh now steps naturally into the role of Co-Course Coordinator for INT D 101. Outside of work, he is an avid runner, golfer, and hiker who brings that same drive and curiosity to everything he tackles.
