Awards + Funding

Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering any year of an undergraduate degree in the Alberta School of Business and who is a Peter Lougheed School of Leadership student. Selection is based on academic standing and demonstrated leadership potential through involvement and participation in university or community organizations. Receipt of funding for the second year is contingent upon maintaining superior academic achievement and continuing as a PLSL student. 

When students go to apply for this award, they are not applying for a specific award but for all awards - students will be matched automatically to awards for which they are eligible based on their application and academic details. Please see the link below for the most up-to-date information.

Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta who have completed INT D 101. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated leadership. Preference given to students who have completed INT D 101 as an elective.

Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing in any year of an undergraduate degree who is a Peter Lougheed School of Leadership (PLSL) scholar. Based on academic standing, demonstrated leadership, community engagement, volunteerism, and/or involvement in extracurricular activities.

Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering any year of an undergraduate degree who is a student in the Peter Lougheed School of Leadership. Selection based on academic standing, and demonstrated leadership potential through involvement and participation in university or community organizations. Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to receive other Peter Lougheed School of Leadership awards. Receipt of funding for the second year is contingent upon maintaining superior academic achievement and continuing as a Peter Lougheed School of Leadership student.

To qualify for funding, student clubs/associations must:

• Be officially registered with their campus student association (e.g., UASU or Augustana Students’ Association)
• Have an active club bank account to receive funds
• Provide a statement outlining the club’s mission, vision and values

Interested undergraduate student clubs/associations may apply by contacting plsl@ualberta.ca to arrange a virtual or in-person meeting between the PLSL Director and Club Executives.

Clubs may apply at any time for funding to support activities scheduled between January and December of the calendar year.

• Not all clubs/associations will receive funding.
• Funding decisions are made by the PLSL Director following a meeting with the club/association's executive team. Executive teams are notified of the decision within 7-10 business days.
• Typical grant amounts range from $1,000 to $3,000 per calendar year (January–December).
• Clubs/Associations may also apply for funding toward a specific activity or initiative.
• Future funding decisions take into account:
  • The club/association’s engagement in leadership initiatives
  • Timely submission of content for the annual August report to TELUS
  • Funding capacity based on annual allotment

Each funded club and association is required to submit a short written summary of their funded activities along with a photo from a related club event, by August of the current calendar year. This content will be featured in the PLSL's annual report to TELUS.
