The Department of Political Science is a friendly and vibrant community of 20 core academic faculty members with research interests in all areas of the discipline, as well as our valued academic instructors and administrative staff members. There are clusters of faculty working on more specific themes: Indigenous politics and decolonization; the politics of resource extraction and environmentalism; ethnic politics and migration; and the politics of the Middle East. The department is home to an astonishing six research Chairs: three Canada Research Chairs (Yasmeen Abu-Laban in the Politics of Citizenship and Human Rights, Isabel Altamirano-Jiménez in Comparative Indigenous Feminist Studies, and Joshua St. Pierre in Critical Disability Studies); Mojtaba Mahdavi holds the ECMC Chair in Islamic Studies; and Cressida Heyes holds the Henry Marshall Tory Chair. Our newest colleague, Blair Attard-Frost, studies public policy and Artificial Intelligence and is appointed to the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute.
