Prerequisites:
Advanced standing in CPE and Instructor permission (process includes application form, interview and two letters of recommendation [current manager and a peer]). Spiritual Care and Counselling providers taking this course in order to Preceptor supervised psychospiritual education students placed at their locations will become part of the teaching team for CPE units. They will thereby enter into a collaborative relationship with the CASC/ACSS Teaching Supervisory team. Therefore, prior to the beginning of the course, participants are asked to provide their Curriculum Vitae/Résumé, participate in a pre-course interview, and commit to working in responsible relationship with CASC/ACSS certified Supervisor Educators who are ultimately responsible for all aspects of students’ CPE learning. A site assessment and completion of a Student Placement Agreement (co-developed between the College, placement site, and student) will also be required before Preceptorship can commence. Important Note:
This is a course offered through a partnership between the Alberta Steering Committee for Supervised Psychospiritual Education (CPE) and St. Stephen’s College. It will run concurrently with a CPE unit.

This course has been designed with consultation and input from clinical/ministry experts in spiritual care and psychospiritual counselling. It is offered as an integral part of efforts to revitalize Supervised Psychospiritual Education (SPE) in the Province of Alberta by establishing a network of Preceptors prepared to support the learning of CPE students placed at their clinical/ministry locations. The primary purpose of the course is to accompany site-based Preceptors through their initial Preceptorship experience with Clinical Psychospiritual Education (CPE) students placed at their facilities. A second purpose of this course is to look at the Preceptor/student relationship through a lens of sacred trust, spiritual/theological reflection, professional modeling, and competency development. Finally, this course is intended to promote excellence in Preceptor and CASC/ACSS Supervisor Educator collaboration, and thus to effectively train competent spiritual care professionals to work in prisons, schools, hospitals, military settings, inner city agencies, faith communities, long term care, and campus ministry locations. Once the Preceptors have completed the course, obtaining a certificate of course completion in the process, they can accommodate Supervised Psychospiritual Education (SPE) students at their sites on an ongoing basis.
