Promoting Inclusive Play in Alberta
The Steadward Centre, in collaboration with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, has announced the new Promoting Inclusive Play in Alberta program. The program will have recreation program planning professionals and stakeholder groups exploring ways to increase access to physical activity and recreation opportunities.
9th Annual Marajathon
On December 7, 2018, Brian Maraj played squash from 9AM-5PM in the 9th annual Marajathon in support of Free2BMe.
CanCon 2018
Between May 31-June 2, 2018, The Steadward Centre hosted CanCon 2018: A Canadian Conversation in Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). The first of its kind, the conference gathered over 80 students, researchers, and FES participants from across Canada for a variety of poster presentations, talks, and discussions related to FES. The information gleaned from the conference's presentations and discussions will be used to help formulate guidelines for FES implementation and use.
4th Annual Going The Distance Challenge
On March 8, 2018, The Steadward Centre will be holding its 4th annual Going The Distance Swim Challenge! From 5-9PM in the Van Vliet West Pool at the University of Alberta, community members, para swimmers, and Golden Bears/Pandas athletes will be swimming in support of The Steadward Centre's Para Swimming program. Why Jenny Smiles
When Kathleen Carlson takes her daughter Jenny to the mall, everyone stares. But at the University of Alberta's Free2BMe program, Jenny gets acceptance. Dozens of other families wanted their kids to have the same opportunity, but the program did not have enough space. A gift from donors made the difference.

2017 Free2BMe Gala
On June 23, 2017, The Steadward Centre held the second annual Free2BMe Gala, hosted at the Chateau Lacombe. The annual Gala helps support Free2BMe, a program providing physical activity for kids and teens experiencing disability.
2017 Adapted Physical Activity Symposium
Every two years, the Adapted Physical Activity Symposium in brings together researchers, practitioners, para-sport athletes and more to inform and collaborate on the diverse range of topics that make up the field of adaptive physical activity. This year's symposium was held in Calgary at Mount Royal University from March 23-25.
