Leadership Education for Athletes with Disabilities (LEAD)

The Steadward Centre is excited to announce Leadership Education for Athletes with Disabilities (LEAD)

 

The Steadward Centre is excited to announce a new program: Leadership Education for Athletes with Disabilities (LEAD). LEAD is a 7-week leadership development program designed specifically for athletes with disabilities who are interested in growing their leadership skills and exploring leadership opportunities within sport and beyond. 

Program highlights include:

  • Weekly sessions held either online or in person (only specific dates will be in person, the remainder will be hosted virtually)
  • A focus on five key leadership skills: self-awareness, interpersonal skills, empathy and relationship building, inclusiveness, and problem solving
  • Guest presentations from current leaders in sport and the disability community, including: 
    • Michael Frogley, Wheelchair Basketball Coach
    • Jason Dunkerley, Disability Inclusion Policy Specialist with Sport Canada
    • Alanna Mah, co-captain, Women's National Para Ice Hockey Team
  • Opportunities to network with other athletes and connect with established sport leaders

LEAD is made possible by grant funding through the Government of Alberta.
