Master Plans
The University of Alberta aims to grow enrolment to 60,000 students by 2033 while remaining in our current space footprint. In order to do this, we must fully understand the space we have and the space we require.
We are embarking on a coordinated effort to prepare seven distinct and interrelated precinct master plans. These plans will answer the following questions:
- What type of space does the university have today?
- What type of space should the university have today?
- What type of space is recommended to support growth to 60,000 students?
- What actions does the university need to take to support growth to 60,000 students?
Once completed, the precinct master plans will guide space optimization decisions and capital planning priorities in order to meet our enrolment goals.
Master plans are an implementation tool in the Infrastructure Planning Landscape, and build on the foundational campus and space planning work we’ve already completed including Built for Purpose: The University’s Strategic Campus Plan, the revised Space Management Policy and Procedure and updated university space formulas and standards.
