Meet the Director

M. Anne Naeth, PAg, PBiol, FSTLHE, FCSSS

Director, Energy Systems | Director, Future Energy Systems | Director, Land Reclamation International Graduate School (LRIGS) | Professor (Land Reclamation and Restoration Ecology) and Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies), Faculty of Agricultural Life and Environmental Sciences

An award winning educator and researcher, Dr. M. Anne Naeth has 30 years of experience conducting research in a diversity of ecosystems from alpine to arctic, from prairies to forests. Her research program is both applied and theoretical and focuses on plant-soil-water relationships, understanding and defining processes inherent in these relationships, their effects on ecosystem structure and function, their response to disturbance and their role in reclamation after disturbance. Her research has investigated the impacts of anthropogenic disturbance such as oil and gas development, mining, gravel extraction, landfilling, recreational use and transportation corridors on soil and plant community development, management of non-native plant species, soil building, effective revegetation methods, and contaminant remediation. An understanding of longer-term reclamation trajectories in these communities and reclamation success indicators are currently of specific interest.
