Message from the chair

With more than a century of history, our department has been integral to building Alberta and shaping engineering practice across Canada and beyond. From our earliest days under William Muir Edwards to today’s leadership in civil, mining, petroleum, structural, geotechnical, environmental, construction and water resources engineering, we continue to honour a proud legacy while advancing new frontiers.

Our researchers harness artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, advanced materials and immersive technologies to develop sustainable infrastructure, clean energy systems and solutions for extreme environments.

As one of the largest and most diverse departments in the Faculty of Engineering and the whole university, we see collaboration not as a slogan but as a daily practice. By uniting disciplines and embracing innovation, we prepare the next generation of engineers to shape a safer, more resilient and more sustainable world.
