Meet Mohd Adnan Khan, assistant professor, Chemical and Materials Engineering

Adnan’s research work is focused on design and analysis of sustainable energy systems and NetZero transition pathways for Canada. Still early in his career, Adnan has six US patents, one book chapter and over 38 peer-reviewed scientific articles.

Welcome Adnan!

Tell us about your research

The goal of my research lab, the Energy Transition Lab at University of Alberta, is to develop and analyze novel materials, technologies and credible transition pathways towards Net-Zero emissions for Canada.

What inspired you to enter this field?

Tackling climate change is the most vital issue for our generation. We need to fix the harm we have caused to the environment — we owe this to our children.

Tell us about your teaching

I will be teaching courses on energy, engineering economics, renewable energy system design, emissions analysis and nano-functional materials.

What are your impressions of Edmonton/the University of Alberta so far?

Still early days, but the university has great facilities, students, and faculty members. It’s been a great first month in Edmonton but I'm a little nervous about the winter :)

What are your hobbies, or things you like to do outside of work?

Playing sports and spending time with my family.
