Sustainable Operations Dashboards

The University of Alberta is always working to improve energy efficiency and increase resource conservation across its campuses.

Our sustainable operations dashboards showcase our successes and uncover areas we can improve in climate action, energy management and sustainability.

66K tonnes fewer
GHG emissions/year since adopting 2012's reduction plan

31% decrease
in building energy use intensity since the 1970s

38% certified

Figure: About GHG Emissions by Scope

The university tracks greenhouse gas emissions from its operations in a GHG inventory. This graph shows the different sources of emissions at the university.

Following the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Scope 1 includes all of the direct emissions resulting from the university’s operations, Scope 2 is purchased electricity and Scope 3 is indirect emissions, such as solid waste, waste water and commuter travel. Learn more in our GHG Emissions Dashboard.

Energy Use on Campus

Buildings use energy for things like heat, power and air conditioning, and reducing energy is one way to lessen our impact on the environment and reduce carbon emissions. Explore this dashboard to learn how much energy our buildings use and visualize performance over time.
