Convocation

The University of Alberta holds two convocations each year:

  • Spring Convocation in June
  • Fall Convocation in November

Students must complete all the following steps before the graduate student convocation deadlines [in sidebar] in order to convocate:

1. Apply for Convocation

Apply for convocation using the feature found under the Academics menu in Bear Tracks.

In Bear Tracks, click on the "Graduation link" in the "My Academics" folder, which will open the "apply for graduation" tab. Select the Program and follow the instructions to complete your application.

Note: All applications for convocation are subject to review and approval by the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS). Applying to convocate on Bear Tracks does not guarantee convocation.

2. Compile your Supporting Documents

Ensure that the department has sent the appropriate program completion form to the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies. These forms are all found in the Forms Cabinet on this website.

3. Submit your Thesis (Thesis-based students only)

Submit thesis for review and approval by GPS (Master's thesis-based and Doctoral students only).

4. Fee Payment

Pay outstanding fees. Parchments and other official documentation will not be released to students with outstanding accounts.
