Special Student (Non-Degree Program)
The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) at the University of Alberta also offers opportunities for advanced studies in a non-degree format where students take graduate level courses for credit without proceeding toward a graduate degree. If authorized to take a course, they apply as Special Students. They should contact their prospective department to begin the application. The department will forward the following items to FGSR:
• Admission recommendation
• Manual Registration form
• Required academic documents (transcripts, degree certificates, marksheets)
• English Language Proficiency scores (if applicable)
For more information, see the Graduate Program Manual Section 5.12 Categories of Graduate Students for definitions. You can also refer to Section 6.6 Special & Visiting Students for information regarding re-application after one year of completed studies.
Please note: Not all departments offer special student programs.
