Student Legal Services

Student Legal Services of Edmonton (SLS) is a student-managed, non-profit society dedicated to helping low-income individuals and University of Alberta students with access to justice in Edmonton since 1969. Student volunteers from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law provide free legal information and agency in the courts to those who would otherwise be unable to afford these services. SLS provides assistance in the areas of civil, criminal and family law, and offers community outreach in legal education and research assistance to non-profit organizations.

In addition to providing low-income Edmontonians with pro-bono legal advice, SLS also enables students to gain valuable, hands-on experience working with real clients, while at the same time mastering their legal skills and building their professional resumes.
