The University of Alberta Department of Music's Music at Convocation Hall is proud to present Duo Majoya with Alvin Lowrey and Brian Jones Friday, February 5 at 8pm at the Winspear Centre.

Marnie Giesbrecht and Joachim Segger form Duo Majoya. Chair of Music Department of King's University College, Segger is also an Adjunct Professor of piano at the University of Alberta. University of Alberta DMus graduate Marnie Giesbrecht has been a faculty member in the Department of Music since 1988 where she teaches, organ, piano, chamber music and related subjects.

Pairing piano and organ with trumpet in what proves to be an oft unheard combination, Duo Majoya is proud to join forces with Alvin Lowrey, Emeritus Principal Trumpet of the Edmonton Symphony and part-time trumpet professor at the University of Alberta. Retired after playing in the ESO for 33 years, Lowrey has since turned his attentions to arranging music.
Inspired by Mussorgky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," Lowrey arranged the piece to be presented alongside images penned by visual artist Kathryn Sparks. Pairing original drawings with orchestral music inspires a visual feast for this February 5th performance: audience is provided the opportunity to experience the music as told through pictures.
The evening's performance will also feature original work by composer and University of Alberta Associate Chair of Graduate Studies Howard Bashaw. Creating repertoire ranging from solo piano to full orchestra, Bashaw has received commissions through the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the CBC Radio Music Department.
